Artists Unanimous is planning on making a big noise the first week of school Fall 2010 with a full cast of Artists on display! Music, dance, film, all are Artists and all are welcome to join! We are seeking music students, dance and similiar artists, and theater/film students to take part of and document the whole event! With an array of Artists showcasing thier talents, we will make it known the value of UTPA's art, music, dance, & film departments!

WE ARE CREATURES OF CREATION, so let us CREATE something AMAZING!

Mural Design Submissions deadline is January 28th.

There will be a MANDATORY MEETING for everyone Thursday January 28th, from 12 to 1 in room 218 of the art building. We'll be having a Artmarketing/Self Promotion Workshop

Membership fees are due at the meeting on Thursday for all current members and officers. Prospective Members may pay their dues then or wait til you get a hold of me later.

Juried Show Postcard Image submissions are now closed, Soon to open for New Members

AU will host its semi-annual Pot Luck. Members attending must bring something to share, prospective members can come enjoy some food. 1 guest allowed

If you are a current member, today is the deadline to submit your artist statement and your 3 images for the featured artists spot. Spots are not guaranteed and will not be held on reserve for you while you. We are looking for members who are serious about it, you will have deadlines to meet or the show will be canceled. If you'd like to make use of AU free postcards (printing reimbursement), you must email a request for them. You will be responsible for its design and printing it. If you cant design it, contact me so that we can make an appointment with the OSD graphics designer to get this done. Please be quick, they require at least 3 weeks notice.

Once you have your postcard design ready, take it to copy zone and print it, AU will reinburse you. 20 odd-ish dollars is the cap. this can get you 3.5x4.5 color postcards on both sides...they're descent size. or take me so we can pay it right then and there.

please have your stuff for the featured artist spot submitted by 12 AM tonight.

For those of you interested, don't forget that the postcard for the Juried show will display the work of one or a few of AU members on the front. Those of you interested in having your work displayed on the postcard..please submit images of your artwork to the AU email by January 25th. Submit as many images as you'd like.

If you also have a design idea for murals, you can submit as many as you wish. remember to submit an original drawing/sketch whatever...and in color please. These must be turned in to me (fonzi) on our first general meeting of the spring...January 28th.

If you'd like to be one of AU's featured artists of the month, please submit at least 3 images of the work that will be at the show and also a short artists statement.
Featured Artists spots are limited...there are 4 3 available this semester because february has already been picked.

AU Pot Luck

Unfortunately due to unforeseen circumstances, this was canceled and moved to January 31st at the Bronc Room next to the ball room

Artists Unanimous will be hosting a potluck...everyone involved with AU this semester is invited...along with guests of their choice. AU will give out little thank you gifts for your participation and will be giving two gift certificates to two people who win our game. AU will also give out a prize to the member with the most dedication to the Organization. The prize is a surprise.

The potluck is scheduled for Friday December 18th from 3 to 5...may be a little longer. Everyone attending must send AU an email stating if they're going, how many people they're bringing, and what food item they'll be taking.

Final Mural for Fall 2009

Artists Unanimous will be starting their third mural this Friday Nov. 20th. The wall will be prepared and drawing the design will be done that same day. if time allows, we will start painting it.

On the 20th of November we will meet at the LAC next to their administrative office by 1PM. and on Saturday we will meet at the same place at 8AM. Those who signed up must attend. Those who didnt sign up and would like to go, please do so.. Rocio will be heading this mural this time around.

Everyone else who is interested in submitting work to be reviewed for a mural must submit to Jose Garcia, Veronica Morales, or Magdiel Alfonso. All designs will have an equal opportunity and reviewed by a third party to avoid favoritism from officers. you may start submitting designs as early as you want. you may submit more than one. Please, if they can be in color, please do so; color submissions are more likely to be selected

Christmas ArtBazaar

Artists Unanimous in conjunction with the UTPA Library and the Jewelry&Metals Club will be hosting the first Christmas ArtBazaar at the UTPA Library Lobby.

The Bazaar will be divided into two days, one on November 6th and the other on November 13th. Both are on Fridays from 10AM to 2PM. Original pieces of art will be up for sale, items include ceramics, paintings, jewelry and other arts as well. This is open to the public and there is no fee to Visit the Bazaar.

Artists Unanimous members must sign up to sell. Everyone is welcome to come and see our merchandise.

Careers Information Seminar

Artists Unanimous will be hosting a Careers Information Seminar. It is open to everyone so all member are free to invite people. The UTPA Art Faculty all received a memo last week about this event.

Careers Services will be doing the presentation: they'll offer their services and give us information on the different careers in art.

Everyone who is not a member is welcomed to come by and get involved with AU. Artists Unanimous will also have a interests list for those who are not members and wish to get more information before they join or info on how to join.

This is a special meeting and not required to be attended by the active membership but it is highly encourage. You can learn things such as writing your artist resume and get help on setting up internships and job interviews.

AUs First Mural

Our first mural can now be considered finished. thanks to all who participated in it. We'd like to make a plaque for it, which the metal for it would have to come from our budget or if members have any heavy aluminum then that would be awesome because then we just put in the work for it and no money. this is the image of the finished mural. some more touch ups can be done if members want to touch up somewhere...but it is considered finished. Our next mural will be the LAC logo. we will also begin on it on friday to prepare the wall and draw out the layout of it and paint it on saturday.

Art Careers Seminar

Artists Unanimous will be hosting a Seminar about Art Careers October 15th during the activity period from 12 to 1. This seminar will replace our regular meeting and will be open to the public.

Please make plans to attend and invite other people. This is a great opportunity to get to know what different career paths within Art that you could work for. The presentation will be conducted by the University Career Services.

Juried Spring Show

Planning for the annual Juried Spring Show has begun. Maxilou will be hosting the event this coming Spring also. All AU members are encouraged to participate and submit work. If you are planning on something that requires time for you to complete, now is the best time to start.

The show will most likely be on the 10th of April going through perhaps as long as the 20th, those details are still not clear. The Upper Valley Art League Board will decide on the date but we are pushing for the tenth.

Hopefully everyone will be exited about it as they were last spring and submit more awesome artwork.

September Artwalk

Thanks to all the members who participated this past Friday at our first ArtWalk of the year. It was an over all success. I know some of our members sold their merchandise and some also sold some of their art.
Now that the September ArtWalk is behind us, its time to plan well for the October ArtWalk. Nadia Tamez will be the Featured Artist for October.

This goes for everyone, start planning what you're going to be showing, how much space you'll be using, and how much space you'll have left. Also decide if you'd like other members to fill up the space you'll have left or if you'd like to have a two-person show and have two featured artists instead.

Once you know what you'll be doing, send a couple of pictures of the work you'll be showing and send it to our email. The sooner you submit in your work, the sooner we can order the postcards.

ArtWalk

It is officially September 4th and that means the start of the McAllen ArtWalk Season.
We are going to be showing at the Douglas Clark Sculpture studio gallery. Our Featured Artist for this artwalk is Chris Sotelo, he'll have an installation titled "Dr. Gross's Mass Migration".

Nadia Tamez, Jose Garcia, and Beatriz Guzman will be collaborative artists who will be showing alongside Chris.

We're also going to have five vendors selling varying merchandise, so stop by and support your fellow member artists.

Recruitment

Bucky's block party was a success. Both our Vice-President, and Officer of Media had fun and helped recruit about thirty possible new members. For all those who gave us their information for us to contact them, they'll soon get an email explaining what Artists Unanimous is all about, what we can do for them, how they can be part of us, and how they can benefit from being part of Artists Unanimous and also to answer any of their questions, concerns, or doubts.

New members will be asked to give us some examples of their artistic interest and from that they will be assigned to an active member who can help them with any technical problems they may have and to essentially teach them about their interests.

Bucky's Block Party

Bucky's Block Party is scheduled for Thursday September 3rd.

We need minimum 3 members to be there, this will be a recruitment event. I have all the materials needed and a miniature easel (probably cannot hold anything). Regardless, please email us and let us know who is available. I have Rocio signed up to be there. Someone else must also be there.

Danny, Paul and myself (Fonzi) are signed up to clean this Thursday at the Douglas Clark Studio Gallery. We need some more officers at Bucky's Block Party.

This event will Start at 6PM and go on to 9PM.
There will be Food (free), music, and some prices.
If you sign up please be there early to get a table and chairs.

Table and chairs are on a first come first serve.
The Block Party will be at the Field House.

Christmas Art Bazar

The UTPA Library is interested in hosting an event where we would set up a table in the Library Lobby and sell christmas ornamens, hand-made winter decorations, or things you made during the semester which can be given as presents.

I need to know how many members are interested in this so I can email them back and let them know how big this event is going to be.

This would be in mid to late November or early december. Start brainstorming and let me know your ideas on what we can do for this event.

MURALS MURALS

The LAC has chosen Jose's Preliminary design to go near the History/Philosophy/PoliSci tutoring area. Rocio's Preliminary Design was also chosen which will go near the LAC Office.

Please send an email to the AU email with a list of specific materials you'll be needing. e.i. what colors you'll want to use, if you'll be wanting special brushes, painter's tape to create an edge, paper plates as a palete...let me know; the LAC is asking for a list so we may go to hobby lobby, pick out everything and get a quote to turn in to the LAC for a check.

We'll be setting up these two murals this semester, if the LAC is satisfied with the mural, they will allow us to place two more in the spring on other walls. If the LAC is kept satisfy we may place up to 8 or even 10 different murals on their own wall.

If the LAC is not satisfied with the quality of the work done this fall, then the murals that will go up in the spring will replace the ones done in the fall.

Rocio and Jose will be incharge of their respective murals. They will choose how they do their murals and all members are highly highly encouraged to help in the construction of these huge projects.

GREEN WORKS

UPDATE:

Green Works will no longer be in September, The UTPA Library is booked and since our theme is green, they want us to set up the show in April during earth day week.

We are now signed up for "Green Works" in April giving us a lot more time for everyone to come up with green or environmentally "green" works of art.

Recruitment

Tomorrow, August 28th, we'll be having recruitment at the Rec Center.
Recruitment starts @ 10:30AM. We should be there by around 10:00AM to set everything up.
Please take some artwork, ceramics or jewelry to help recruit. So bring your art and be ready to tell stories about your art.

SHOWS SHOWS SHOWS

ATTENTION: all AU members are encouraged to submit "green works" by September 21st. We'll be setting up a show at the Art Gallery in which all the art pieces are green.

It can be anything and in any subject, it does not have to be completely green as long as it has green. The Green can be in its various shades, tones, values and different variations.

We are still trying to get the place reserved. Each member is encouraged to submit two works. Not all members will participate so it is a good idea to have a few extra. The goal is to have "Green Works" set up on the 28th of September, we're also planning on having an opening.

Also, plan ahead for October's show, "Hunting Statements". We're trying to set this show at the COAS on October 20th, so pieces for that show will be due by October 15th.

For November we're going to try to have another show at the Library. That show is still in the works, we'll either have a show with any artwork you want, pieces from the semester, or your best stuff. Either that, or switch with STC where we show over there and STC shows at UTPA.

So start working on your pieces for the show. The deadlines have been set, so get started. After each show we'll have a small celebration to commemorate our accomplishment of the show.

Artists Unanimous will now be meetings in FAB 218 on the 2nd and 4th Thursday of each month from 12 to 1.

On September the 10th, we'll be meeting at the UTPA Annex on closner for our Frame Workshop hosted by Prof Santiago. Be there and learn to frame your own art from your hand made frames!
